Ask about their equipment. Is it industry standard? How old is it? What kind of condition is it in? What does the set-up look like? Make sure they have a good quality, clean and professional sound system to avoid feedback, crackling and other wedding day downers that may come from a substandard system.

Ask about their music library
How do they acquire music? Every professional DJ should subscribe to an approved music pool where they receive licensed music. This ensures the right quality for listening and full, legal use of the tracks. Also, ask if they are able to take requests “on the fly” if that’s something that is important to you.
Make sure they can correctly pronounce any uncommon names in the wedding party.
Do they let you know about other options, like up-lighting or photo booth? In order to create a viable career, many established DJs/wedding entertainment companies will offer options to enhance your wedding experience. In many cases, you will get favorable pricing by bundling these options.
Ask for a backup plan. The reality is, no one is immune to becoming ill or having an emergency occur; make sure the DJ you have selected has an alternative plan should that individual have an emergency.
Make sure there is some chemistry between the DJ/MC, you and other important people in the wedding party. You are going to be spending a lot of time with your wedding vendors and your DJ is a pivotal component of your reception. If you don’t hit it off with a DJ/MC, then you should probably keep looking!
